Case studies

Case studies are primarily descriptive in nature,  but answering questions, testing hypotheses, predicting on the basis of observations and other forms of analysis and interpretation are usually important aspects of the best papers. Comparison is frequently employed, by using control groups to learn more about a particular case, or in the close examination of the same case in two different regions via comparative observations.
